Dominoes

Cleaning and taking playroom photos just didn't fill up our entire Sunday morning. Since it was snowing again and we didn't feel like getting out of our pjs again we used that nice clean table for some domino fun.

One of these days spring will come and we will start spending our Sunday mornings outside. But for now, we'll just keep finding new ways to entertain ourselves indoors.

The playroom

Well, we did it. We managed to clean up and photograph the playroom this morning. This long, narrow room has been a challenge and has gone undecorated since we moved in. We rearranged the furniture over and over, but it never seemed to work. Our mish-mash of shelving units were constantly overflowing with toys and games. The loveseat was used more for jumping on and hiding behind than sitting on. I looked for a before picture to share and this one was the best I could come up with:

A messy room is rarely photographed. (Not that it isn't still usually messy. I mean, it is a playroom after all.) Here's what it looks like today:

We took out all the random shelves and filled the back wall with matching bookshelves and a low bench/window seat. Walter has a step stool to reach the higher shelves. The coffee table is Walter's train table and is a great surface for puzzles, games, and LEGO-building. We added a chair so there are seats for everyone around the table. We put up a gallery wall to display all of Walter's artwork and he can easily replace the old stuff with new stuff. I'm loving all the new storage space in this room. There's a place for everything so cleaning up is easy. Finally, a playroom we love to play in!

Sunday

Building, visiting, crafting, and photographing. My kind of day.
LEGO building in our pajamas is becoming a Sunday morning tradition. And I'm giving you another little peek at the playroom re-do. Maybe by next Sunday I'll have it cleaned up and ready to show off. No promises though.

I spent the afternoon putting some more scraps to use. I can't wait to see how this scrap map turns out - I got a pretty good start on it today. Those big blocky western states went together quickly, but the northeast is more challenging. It's hard to keep track of all those little guys.

I hope your Sunday was as productive and peaceful as ours.

Sledding

We call it sledding, but it's mostly climbing, wouldn't you say?

We were lucky enough to have the hill all to ourselves this morning. We wanted to get a few last runs in before the rain comes this afternoon and melts all the snow. (At least, I hope it's going to melt all the snow.)

A comparison

Nate wanted to see the difference in photos between the macro lens and a "regular" lens. In this case a "regular" lens is my 50mm - the lens I use most often. I snapped a few more photos of the seedlings while I was cooking dinner tonight so I could have a little comparison to show.

So there you have it, macro vs. "regular."
Those brand new pumpkin plants remind me of little Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors. I've got my eye on you, pumpkins.
Because I had the camera out during dinner prep, you get to see my pizza too. Just minutes before being baked all golden and bubbly.

Sorry there are no after photos. We were hungry.

Lil' sprouts

They're sprouting! They're sprouting! And I took the opportunity to try out my new macro lens. It's kind of fun to get a close up of a little seedling unfolding and shrugging off it's tiny shell.

Spring has sprung on my kitchen counter. Good thing, too. They are predicting up to 10 inches of snow tonight. Will this winter never end?
