... and why you don't see many photos of Walter anymore.
It's because the minute a camera comes out, he does this:
Even if I'm not aiming at him he does this:
Once in a while I'll sneak one of these:
Or one of these:
But really, I'd rather enjoy the corn maze than chase him around trying to get a photo. It's more fun for all of us.
Eventually, I just handed him my camera. He took this - my mom and me:
Maybe he's just more comfortable being behind the camera. I'm familiar with that feeling.
The corn maze – Treinen Farm, in Lodi – was a lot of fun. Worth the trip!

A new school year
Well, we're about a month in to second grade and I'm just now getting the first day of school photo up here. Walter is loving school again. His teacher is great, he's happy to be back with friends, and he willingly jumps right into his homework when he gets home from school. Ok, ok. That last one we're still working on. Here's our big second grader and, for fun, the first day photos from the last few years.

Fishin'
What's a blog for if not for posting vacation photos?
We took a little road trip to South Dakota last week. We did all the usual South Dakota stuff - hiking, cave tours, Mt. Rushmore, etc. It was a GREAT trip. The weather was beautiful, Walter was a great little hiker, we saw tons of cool stuff, and we ate cheeseburgers almost every day. Really. It was a lot of cheeseburgers. A lot.
Also, we saw license plates from 45 of the 50 United States. Pretty cool considering we only traveled two states away from home. (The missing states, for the curious among you, were: Mississippi, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Hawaii.)
I didn't take a ton of photos, but if you look at my instagram feed over on the right, you'll see my iPhone photos. And if you look below, you'll see how I, and my camera, spent the morning while the boys were fishing.
Would you look at this kid? Mallards hat, Red Sox shirt, Badger shorts. He likes his sports.
I know you're wondering - did they catch anything?? Weeeeelllll... nothing big enough to keep. Instead of having trout for dinner, we had cheeseburgers.

Tagalong tees
In case anyone is still reading here, I've got my Tagalong Tee up for sale! It was originally designed for Nate as a Father's Day gift (he and Walter were tagalong pals), but I thought other folks might like it too. It's a soft, ringspun cotton, navy tee with white print, available in mens, womens, and youth sizes. $20 each plus $5.75 shipping, or local pickup is free. Orders must be placed by April 22. Send me a message if you're interested.

Droplets and daffodils
Friends, it's been a while. I guess sometimes I just need to take a break. But tonight my sweet boy handed me these:
When I put them in a vase, there was something about those sparkly petals and little drops of water that made me run to get my big camera and the macro lens. I'm so glad I did. It was fun. Happy spring.
